Portal Potion: Happy BirthdayMy birthday story to myself. Enjoy! If there was one thing the Storyteller Kelsey craved more then anything, it was having a genuine companion. Somebody who kept their promises showed her sincere respect and made her feel valued. She'd been scorned, manipulated, ridiculed, and ostracized. Her family and peers treated her incredibly poorly in the real world and online. It was partly why her birthday did matter to her.She desperately desired one day when someone honestly SHOWED they were happy she'd been born. Of course, the only ones she regarded that had ever shown her unconditional love where her grandparents, who had since passed. Also, Kelsey despised sharing her birthday with her unpleasant and thoughtless sister. That was putting it politely.Who in their right mind thinks giving people stones, shoelaces, and hotel soap is a thoughtful 'gift'? From her POV, she felt it only indicated how little her twin sister truthfully cared if she considered items from a junk drawer to be regarded as gift. It wasn't even about money, but it continuously felt like she was an afterthought. She was not even worthy of a proper gift, which only boiled her blood more, given she'd gone out of her way to give her sister thoughtful gifts. However, every gift she'd given her twin sister had been met with insults and being utterly ungrateful. Her sister constantly belittled her gifts and yelled why would she give her these things? She gave her a cat bed because she had a cat. She'd given her books, figurines, and paintings. All of this had been met with scorn and abuse. So no, she didn't care to share her birthday at all.The rest of her dysfunctional family was just as awful as her twin regarding her birthday. Her father didn't send her a birthday card even! Neither did her older brother or younger sister. It hurt that her family didn't show her the love she desperately desired! They didn't even show that they cared she had even been born! She had always felt the least loved and like a failure and disappointment her whole life.Again, was it asking too much for a friend? To be treated with kindness and respect? To be shown some love and compassion? Evidently, it was as if she had never received those particular gifts any day of the year. It was why she was so astonished when she woke up at 5:00 a.m. on October 14th and found an extraordinary gathering of individuals in her tiny apartment! Everyone present was from the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender! But they all dressed nicely and seemed quite delighted to see her! She wondered how they again got through the portal without waking her up. Still, she was delighted to see her favorite couple, Zuko and Akiko. She likewise noticed Kimana, Calypso, and Ilah. Plus, Alanna and Zephyr. Heck, even Kyoshi, Rangi, and Obsidiana! She was flabbergasted they all fit in her one-bedroom apartment. Still looking out at the black skies, she knew they knew what she wanted. So silent as mice, they made their way to the empty lobby of the building. They turned on the lights, and for the next two and half hours before anyone else came downstairs, they had a small but awesome party for the thirty-six-year-old birthday. They even gave her gifts they knew she liked. Sketchbooks, colored pencils, new pens. Plus, journals, earrings, and a new bed set. For once in her life, Kelsey ultimately felt loved and that even if these people came from another world, they had come to her world to make her feel valued and deserving of being alive. That she would eternally be thankful for.
Book Club 11Two sixteen-year-olds were sitting in the break room of the Jasmine Dragon Tea Shop. The handsome boy Zuko's grandfather Iroh ran the establishment, and as family remained extremely important, Zuko did his part to help his grandfather and father, Lu Ten, run it. He and his best friends Akira and Hideki were some of the best servers. Meanwhile, his ravishing girlfriend Akiko worked at their godmother cafe/fashion boutique. They'd each gotten off earlier today. So they felt this was the best time they're going to get to discuss a two-part book series they'd finished over the weekend. "Shadow of the Dragon" by Kate O'Hearn. Akiko, in particular, loved anything to do with dragons, so she'd really enjoyed the book. "So, shall we start with the first book? The one about Kira?" Akiko questioned excitedly."First, let's take a moment to drink some calming tea. We don't need either of us bouncing off the walls," Zuko pointed out as he poured them some tea."As always, Zuky, you're right when I need help calming down," they both took small sips. Finally, when both had their emotions under control, they began to talk. Of course, Akiko went on a long rant about the "First Law" that all girls had to follow. It went beyond sexism and misogyny. It essentially made it a sin to be born a girl, and girls were treated more like property than people.Zuko agreed that the whole idea of the First Law was beyond ridiculous. He also admitted he did feel sorry for all the dragons. Both wild and free because many of them were treated in a derogatory way. Akiko then talked about how frightening it had been for Kira and her younger sister, nicknamed Shadow, to escape the sadistic lord who forced them to hide on the dangerous mountain where the savage wild dragon lived.Zuko noted there had always been something different about Kira's younger sister. She'd shown clear signs of nature-based magic when she understood the fox Onnie or could see in the Magical Wizard Eye, and Kira couldn't. Akiko confessed that in the first book, Kira remained a fierce protector of her sister and a loving foster mother to her blue dragon, Jinx. Still, even when the family reunited, things had gone wrong.Which Zuko brought up in the second book, where Shadow was the main character. She lived in isolation in the mountains for eight years in the ancient past while the rest of her family were in a dystopian future for a few days.At the end of the second book, Akiko felt it was such a shame because of being without human contact for so long. Shadow couldn't rejoin human society after they'd overthrown the evil monarchy. Still, at least the prophecy came true, even if the girl who would fulfill it wasn't the one the readers were expecting. Overall, it was a great two-part book series, and they're eager to read other books by this amazing author.
The Life of AkikoTwenty years before Avatar Aang's return to the world in the Fire Nation, a sacred fire known as The First Fire powers made it known of a time of prophecy. The Fire Sages worked for two years to figure out what prophecy that sacred flame was foretelling. Ultimately, it spoke of several couples bearing children who would make the final difference in the 100-year war. So, once the prophecy was figured out, it was time to fulfill it. One couple foretold to have a child of destiny was arranging a marriage between a woman of Dragon Guardian bloodline and an up-and-coming soldier. Sakiko is the last of the lineage for the Dragon Guardians. The man was Zhao, whose ego, arrogance, and self-proclaimed destiny to kill the moon spirit was why he was to be wedded. A group of imperial firebenders and a fire sage tracked Sakiko, her best friend, and bodyguard Xiaoying, in a faraway village. Despite getting the upper hand in the fight, Sakiko surrendered, knowing she never knew peace as long as they pursued her. She also knew she couldn't change certain aspects of fate. Sakiko was married to Zhao around the same time Ursa was married to Ozai. But both women shared an unhappy and loveless marriage where their husbands were cruel in their own way to them and their future offspring. Zhao immediately abandoned his wife and never acknowledged her or his future daughter. For Zhao, being married or becoming a father gave him no personal glory or satisfaction with what he viewed as an honor. Thus, Sakiko was left alone with only Xiaoying to care for her. Since those of Dragon Guardian blood are born more spiritual and naturally intuitive, Sakiko knew she would not be around to raise her daughter. So she asked Xiaoying to find her daughter's new parents who would love her. Sakiko gave birth to her only child and daughter Akiko during the exact moments of the holiest day in the Fire Nation. The Summer Solstice. One life extinguished, and another lit. The child was born in limbo- halfway in the Spirit World and half in the world of Man. Sakiko only lived long enough to name her daughter Akiko and give a pearl of short but essential wisdom to her daughter. She made sure her daughter knew someone loved her before she died. Akiko spent the first five years of her life raised by her godmother, Xiaoying. She never attended a Fire Nation school as Sakiko didn't desire her daughter to become brainwashed. Instead, she learned many lessons at home, from practical experiences in life skills to different fighting styles. She was also very lonely, as being an orphan was considered bad luck. Since her father had abandoned them and her mother died by law, she was an orphan. Akiko's loneliness all but consumed her during her first five years. Despite the isolation, Akiko's potential was realized. Before her third birthday, Xiaoying noticed that Akiko would talk to animals not there or take long naps. Unknown to her and what Akiko didn't know, she was blessed by the spirit world. The spirit world had sent two animal spirits to teach her how to use the unique gifts she'd been given. Kai, a fox-hawk, and Ting-Ting, a rabaroo, slowly began to teach Akiko about her unusual talents. Akiko thought she was dreaming or making them up to compensate for her loneliness. They took their duties as her spirit guides seriously. Over her lifetime, Akiko would slowly learn and master her spiritual powers. They included but were not limited to the following. Able to go to and from the Spirit World at will, call forth spirits, and open portals. See and interact with ghosts; human spirits could talk through her. Astral projection and use her powers combined with her bending to heal wounds inflicted by bending the spiritual energy of bending back to the spirit world. For the first five years of Akiko's life, she was alone and miserable. Things changed after Fire Lord Azulon honored his son Crown Prince Iroh's request that service members return for a week-long family vacation on Ember Island. While Zhao didn't understand his orders to return home, given that he had purged from his mind any memory of being married or having a child, he was angry and disgusted by the changes to his manor. He was super angry at Xiaoying, who defended herself and Akiko. Making it clear she wouldn't let him harm Akiko and that they weren't going anywhere. Akiko, eager to meet her father, was stunned by his rejection and the fact that he never called her by name—only referring to her as it. Her heart only slowly broke more when they got to Ember Island, and Zhao's rejection hurt her further. Finally, she ran away to get away from the pain. She kept running until she was clear on the other side of the island. She then spotted the Fire Nation symbol of true love on a rock out in the sea. A fire lily. The need to feel love was so strong she ignored the danger and went to get the flower. However, she nearly drowns and would've if not for some unknown people saving her life. She dreamed that her spirit guides helped her remember her mother's message and promised to help her further in her journey. Then she woke up in a strange room and was greeted by a demon. Or at least she thought the callous three-year-old girl in front of her was a demon. Her mother swiftly reminded the girl. The woman turned out to be Princess Ursa, making Akiko realize she was in the Fire Nation Royal Family Beach House. Ursa instantly acted like a mother to Akiko, who never had that kind of attention before. Shortly afterward, she met her savior, Prince Zuko. When their gold and jade eyes met, it was a rare case of true love at first sight. Akiko spent the rest of the day with the royal family, minus Ozai. Iroh even asked her to address him as "uncle," she quickly bonded with him, Zuko, Lu Ten, and Ursa. She enjoyed her first-day playing, doing arts and crafts, cookies, and dancing. Zuko confided in her about his strange dreams, and she promised not to tell anyone. The two young children only fell more in love as Akiko was returned to her home. Iroh then stripped Zhao of his claim of the girl and became her new father, and Ursa took the position of the girl's mother. For the next several years, Akiko would spend her days at the palace, where she was raised alongside Zuko and Azula. She was schooled in the arts of what it meant to be a Lady, as Iroh had given her the title "Lady Akiko." She became a skilled ballerina and talented artist from early childhood. It soon became apparent as long as Zuko and Akiko were together, they could achieve anything. Though not widely known, the two were a perfect duet when it came to arts as well. Singing, dancing and playing music together they're perfect. Also, the one other thing the two shared was their favorite story was "The Promise of the Fire Lily." (Which is just a Fire Nation version of Romeo and Juliet) But the story became deeply important to them. Lu Ten became her adopted big brother, and between her adoptive parents, Zuko and Xiaoying, her life slowly improved. She and Zuko accomplished much together during childhood, including inventing their own firebending style, learning to sword fight, and winning a fire rope jumping championship. Akiko, though, was abused as often by Ozai and Azula as Zuko was. Still, with each other by their side, it at least made the pain easier to tolerate. Nevertheless, the constant torment from Death and the Demon, as Akiko always addressed them, did take a toll on the pair. When she was eight, she told her adopted father, Iroh, and Zuko, about her spiritual gifts as they prepared for the Day of the Dead. Iroh assured his daughter she wasn't a freak but was blessed to have their gifts, though he did tell her to exercise caution in the future about this gift. Their lives were forever changed after Lu Ten passed away. Akiko had a premonition that something horrible would happen to Zuko and thus her when Ozai wanted to see the Fire Lord. Her mother, Ursa, made Akiko swear two significant things. That she would never forget who she was. Secondly, not only gives Zuko her love but also his mother's love in case anything happens. Akiko did not understand what her mother was asking and only agreed. The events after the meeting left Zuko and Akiko without their mother and Ozai in charge. The first thing Ozai did was ban Akiko from coming to the palace. However, Xiaoying used a unique dove to send word to Iroh. Iroh sent a letter to his brother. The contents were kept from Zuko or Akiko. Akiko suspected her father had threatened Ozai's claim to the throne if he didn't undo banishing her from the palace. Two weeks later, Zuko and Akiko were reunited and made a vow with their special firebending to one day find Ursa, no matter how long it took. A few years later, Zuko commissioned a special comb to give to Akiko to make the Promise of the Fire Lily with her. Even though they were only thirteen years old at the time, and it was a serious commitment, both made the vow and sealed it with their first kiss not long after the Day of Scars happened. It then becomes clear as Ozai scarred and banished Zuko that something unusual was happening between them. It was as if they were linked as each felt the other's physical and emotional pain. Not even having a chance to say goodbye, Akiko returned to her empty manor to cry about all she had lost. Only to receive a message from her birth mother from the Spirit World. Seeing it was time to seize her destiny and finding that Xiaoying had prepared everything for her quest, Akiko quickly donned the ceremonial armor of the Dragon Guardians. Then she used her special firebending to set Ozai and Azula's rooms on fire while leaving a message burned into the Fire Lord's chamber. After that, she began her three-year quest to find Zuko and become The Light of Hope. For three years, she traveled the world, attempting to find Zuko. Thankfully, the skills Xiaoying taught her helped her survive undetected. Listening to rumor mills, talking to local spirits, and intercepting message hawks, she was able to keep up to date with current events and get clues to her objective. She was unprepared for the day Avatar Aang told the world he was back. Due to her spiritual powers, she received the backlash of Aang's fury to the point a part of his soul merged with her. Leaving her forever to live with what Aang felt when he learned the truth about his people. It was hard enough to carry that burden with her, though an equally challenging weight was when she had to speak with Yue, who was now the Moon Spirit, about the events of the North Pole. It wasn't easy to explain to the new Moon Spirit that Zhao was her father by birth but had abandoned her. Her real father was Iroh, who had tried to help save the original moon spirit. Nor was without pain that she had to explain the truth behind her and Zuko's relationship. What his real motivation was in capturing the Avatar. Still, she got the information she needed, and a short time later, she was finally reunited with her true love and father. Though at first receiving a warm welcome from Zuko, he almost immediately asked her to leave as he didn't want her to face dishonor. Nor did he wish her to be killed now that he was a fugitive. Akiko reminded him of their Promise and that she would gladly face even Azula. She told him of the Promise of the Fire Lily story and how the time had come for them to dare to risk it all. Akiko changed into an Earth Kingdom outfit that Xiaoying had prepared beforehand and thus began her journey traveling with Zuko and Iroh as fugitives. She used the name "Ryo" when asked to give a name as "Ryo" meant "Dragon." They first had to stop at a healer to heal Uncle after his love of tea made him consume a deadly plant. It was there they were befriended by a young healer named Song. Song was determined to help "Lee and Ryo." She provided a fresh perspective on the war and helped them finally release some of the pain they'd felt from Day of Scars. She also helped them understand what happened on the Day of Scars wasn't their fault. Thankful for someone helping them deal with the scars on their soul, they made sure to leave a payment after they took her ostrich horse. The subsequent events weren't enjoyable for the trio. They stumble into a bandit town where Zuko and Akiko learn the real horrors of what humans would do to escape pain or inflict it on others. They came to a new village after saving Akiko from becoming a brothel girl. They spent a few days there. But as fate hadn't been kind to the two young lovers, they soon took up their masks again and began to steal to survive and get an adrenaline rush. Though it was only a short time till Iroh had enough of it and tried to set them straight, his words fell short of their goal as Zuko and Akiko decided the time had come to leave Uncle and find their own way. They made sure to leave Iroh with enough money and Akiko's spirit animal guides as a means of protection. Then, the lovers set off on their own. They traveled to a drought-ridden town that was being terrorized by thugs. After not ratting on a local child, they returned to his home and met his parents. They were grateful for not having to explain who they were. Both set to work in exchange for a place for the night. However, it was apparent that neither was used to doing farm work. Throughout the whole time within the village, they both remembered the details of Lu Ten's death, Ozai's bid for the throne, and Ursa mysteriously disappearing. Ultimately, they faced down the thugs to save Lee but were forced to reveal themselves. Akiko made quite a bold statement full of insight and enlightenment that fell on deaf ears and closed hearts. Still, she and Zuko left without incident. Shortly afterward, the two made camp in a greener area. They had a slightly heated discussion about what was happening then and their roles in life. In the middle of the night, Akiko was woken from a dead sleep by sensing the Demon, aka Azula's spiritual energy. Realizing quickly what the Demon's intentions were, Akiko convinced Zuko they had to protect Aang and his friends from her to pay him back for the two life debts they owed him. They then consumed food and water from the Spirit World and set off after Azula and her friends. Eventually, everyone ended up in a ghost town, and Aang met Azula and Akiko. Though the young Avatar didn't fully understand the history of Zuko, Akiko, and Azula, he did figure out that Akiko was Zuko's love, and they hated Azula. Zuko and Akiko used their secret firebending style to try and contain Azula while protecting Aang. Eventually, they, along with Iroh and the rest of Team Avatar, had her cornered, but taking a cheap shot, she struck down Iroh. Akiko then knocked out Zuko with her sword so Katara could heal Iroh. Sokka interrogated her, and she answered him truthfully and again made a bold statement and song about the truth and an enlightenment lesson. Team Avatar left, and Akiko was left to care for her family. The next few days were spent learning new firebending lessons from Iroh and avoiding bounty hunters while learning of the OWL. They eventually made their way to Ba Sing Se. They met Jet, who caused problems for them both in the city. The result was a duel at their place of work in a tea shop. Problems arose again when Iroh was offered his own shop in the upper ring, and Zuko, significantly depressed by their state of living, tried to capture the Avatar's bison. Akiko attempted to stop Zuko, and they both got a verbal smackdown from their true father. It was then they reached an epiphany and set Appa free. This act triggers a spiritual sickness as they undergo a metamorphosis. The lovers had intense visions, which, at the time, they couldn't figure out their meaning. Things seemed to be going great as Uncle opened his shop, but then Katara, who stopped by for tea, unknowingly set off a series of events that would bring about the Earth Kingdom's doom and cause much pain and suffering. Because of Katara, Azula learned of the family being in Ba Sing Se and set up a trap. While Iroh and Akiko escaped, Zuko was captured. The pair pleaded with Aang to help them. Iroh revealed to the young Avatar the truth behind Akiko and Zuko and how he was tied to them. In the end, Azula successfully manipulated Zuko to her side, seemingly killed the Avatar, captured Iroh, and conquered Ba Sing Se. All this also caused Akiko to fall into a coma as the Demon's poison had temporarily severed the bond between Zuko and Akiko, who were symbiotic. What happened to one affected the other. Akiko remained in a coma for several weeks, while Zuko suffered in the real world. It was only thanks to the Sisterhood of the Dawn and the spirit of Akiko's birth mother, Sakiko, that Akiko woke from her coma. The first thing they two lovers did after Akiko woke up was see Iroh. Iroh still refused to talk to them, and they left brokenhearted. The next day, Akiko and Zuko were reunited with their godmother Xiaoying, who was now Akiko's lady-in-waiting. Xiaoying was thrilled to see her godchildren again and helped them prepare for their trip to Ember Island while they caught up. Sadly, returning to Ember Island was a disaster for the whole group for different reasons. They all started talking after they were ejected from a party. One by one, each of them bears their souls to others. By the end of this heart-to-heart, everyone had come to an understanding of the others. Plus, Zuko and Akiko had renewed their bond. When they returned to the capital, the whole Fire Nation was in full swing for the upcoming betrothal ceremony for Zuko and Akiko. While they're slightly more exasperated by all the events, they are more downcast because Iroh and Ursa wouldn't be there. And they deserved to be there more then anyone. A member of the Sisterhood helped them sneak a visit with Iroh, who finally spoke to them again. Apologizing, he could be there for their special day but promised to be there in spirit. Zuko and Akiko broke tradition and took the risk of exposing their special firebending at the ceremony. This shocked everyone, in particular, Ozai. They didn't care as they just enjoyed the party—their Dragon Ball. Not long after their betrothal ceremony, they received mysterious letters informing them of some big secret. Using the clues, they went to the Dragonbone Catacombs. Then, they were transported to the world of the past. They then watched the story of the Avatar and the Fire Lord. They confront their true father about the story only to learn the truth. Zuko was the great-grandson of both Roku and Sozin, and Akiko was the great-granddaughter of Avatar Roku's wife Ta Min's best friend Surya, who was the leader of the Dragon Guardians. Their ancestors and Xiaoying's had made a vow of eternal friendship and had kept it for the last 100 years. Now fully understanding their heritage and their own love better, the time had come to make a choice. They chose to do the right thing and end the war. As they slept the night before the Day of Black Sun, Xiaoying snuck into their room and left them with the supplies they would need before wishing them luck. The following day, the lovers quickly set to work to confront Ozai and escape the Fire Nation to fulfill their destinies of helping save the world. They each wrote a letter to Mai and Ty Lee and had Kai and Ting Ting deliver them. After praying to an altar dedicated to their mother, Ursa, the lovers went to confront Ozai. Once in his presence, they called the old man out and told the truth about everything. After they finally let loose their anger and words of truth, their final act was to use Akiko's spirit powers to call forth the spirits. They intended to scare Ozai as they declared that their life was now their own. However, Ozai wouldn't let them get away with their defiance and baited them with the knowledge of what happened to Ursa. He also confessed that he was responsible for the death of Iroh's wife, Kimana. Angered by the murder confession and learning the truth about their mother's still unknown fate, they almost didn't react in time to redirect Ozai's lightning at them. But successfully pulled it off and shortly afterward escaped on a war balloon. The pair made it first to the Western Air Temple, where they first apologized to the long-gone Airbenders and promised they would do all in their power to right the wrongs committed by their ancestors. It was challenging to get the Gang to trust them. In particular, Katara and Sokka were against them with a passion. Though Toph and Aang were willing to give them a chance, it wasn't till after Akiko helped heal Toph's feet and helped defeat Combustion Man that they were given an opportunity. The pair laid almost bare all the secrets, including their special firebending, Akiko's spiritual powers, and Avatar Roku's prophecy. Afterward, they went to their room to retire, only to be threatened by Katara. The next few weeks weren't any easier on them. Between having to find the source of Firebending, being responsible for caring for the last dragon hatchling, and Azula hunting them, it was a miracle they made it to Ember Island. Around this time, Akiko becomes sick from so much toxin energy. Katara tried to cure her, only for them to be forced to relive Akiko's memories and finally become closer. This led to a spiritual cleanse and the creation of the Avatar Star by the whole gang. Not long afterward came their day with destiny. Zuko and Akiko were the only ones on Aang's side that death didn't solve anything. And wish to end the war without bloodshed. When Aang vanished, the lovers were charged with finding them. After using her spiritual powers to see what was going on back in the capital, they knew they didn't have much time. With the help of Jun, they found the OWL and learned their godmother was second in command and engaged to Sokka's sword master, Master Piandao. They reunited with Iroh, who said he had nothing to forgive them for. After many emotional moments, the gang was tasked to help end the war. Zuko, Katara, and Akiko traveled to the Fire Nation Capital to confront Azula and challenge her for the throne. It was clear that Azula was slowly going insane, but she was sane enough to remind them of the rules of an Agni Kai. Zuko would fight her in a duel to claim the throne for himself and Akiko. But Akiko couldn't interfere. Although Akiko couldn't interfere, she and Zuko were so bonded they still worked to try and take down Azula. However, as Azula descends into madness, she decides to cheat and fire lightning at Akiko to kill her and her true love. Zuko took the blow, slowly, he and Akiko started to die. They spent their last moments remembering the good times of their lives and sealed their last moment with a kiss. They then died, but they were resurrected thanks to Akiko's spirit animals and Katara's healing powers. Soon afterward, they were officially made Fire Lord and Fire Lady and ended the war. They promised to work with their friends and the world to rebuild. Their last moment was kissing on top of Uncle's tea shop. Five years later, after one last crazy adventure, they would marry....
Critique 3: Boiling PointThis is my second critique of my friend and mentor, Yemi Hikari's fanfic work. Her story, "Boiling Point," is an AU in her already AU universe of "Lose or Gain." She even wrote this story for me! In this AU, Lu Ten's death at Ba Sing Se is faked. Ozai arranged it in an attempt to take the throne. Azulon is murdered but still given the same order as Lose or Gain: Iroh's Child, which was to give Zuko to Iroh.We get the backstory of what is hinted at in Iroh's Child. We see the secret relationship between Ursa and Lu Ten play out. It was excellently executed. And incredibly realistic and would've worked quite well if the creators of the show thought of it themselves. Again, we've no idea how old Lu Ten was at his death. Nor do we know any of the adults' ages. So you can play around with it. But the secret romance is well handled. It's further cemented that the only one to notice was Ilah, who attempted to tell Lu Ten by saying Zuko was the first great-grandchild. But, of course, Lu Ten didn't understand until Ursa told him that Zuko was his! But begs him to keep it secret. Lu Ten's best friend is the only one who knows the truth. Because who else would you tell that type of secret to? The flashbacks were well written, as was Ilah's deathbed scene. Then we've Ozai gloating to Lu Ten about him stealing the throne and Lu Ten proving he's his father's son with his breath of fire.Of course, now we see the REAL reason Ozai had the Boiling Rock built. He wanted his nephew presumed death to stay that way. And wanted to ensure Lu Ten couldn't take the throne away from him. This is further proof of WHY they created the cooler. As one would expect in prison, its impossible to tell how the years pass. Also, given what we witnessed in the show, we can see why its even more challenging to tell time. But even locked up, Lu Ten notes he's become wiser and more self-aware. He was growing as a person, all while wondering what has become of his son. He gets some information from his friend, who is locked up for asking questions. Overall the prison scenes are handled well. We see Lu Ten gain Chit Zang and Hakoda as friends and allies since Yemi deviated slightly from the show when we got to Zuko and Sokka. Since Katara had already made amends with Zuko at this point. The reunion scenes are quite heart-wrenching.As Lu Ten is bursting to tell Zuko the truth. But also can't see Zuko's face yet. So he can't imagine him any different then the child he was. The escape plan is even better then the show. Because surprisingly, its Ty Lee that takes out Azula. Ty Lee firmly states her loyalty to the true Fire Lord and heir. Making it clear to Azula that Ozai is a thief of the throne and that she isn't the heir, but Lu Ten is.Suki helps Ty Lee quickly get over her grief when Zuko confirms that Mai stands with Azula in this version. Then we finally get to the dreaded moment when Lu Ten sees what Ozai did to his son's face. He blurts out the truth, but luckily Hakoda saves him by saying he meant it figuratively, not literally. Hakoda knows the truth but realizes this isn't the time or place for it to come out.The rest of the scenes play out well. I love how Toph, a living lie detector, knows Lu Ten is lying about something but doesn't know what it is. I also love how Lu Ten's inner thoughts reflect what more then a few wanted to state that he calls Aang out on his entitled behavior. He sets him straight regarding Katara and calls him out for his BS about his own culture. Getting straight to the point, the whole show skipped over. I adore it when someone has someone call Aang out. Because YES, he acted entitled to Katara and didn't respect her. He just had an insane crush on her but is too young to understand why love is. Also, setting Katara straight, she's free to make her own choices. She doesn't have to fill a role others impose on her that she is a person and doesn't deserve to be forced into a relationship, particularly with an entitled, manipulative child.Yemi also did a great job keeping the tension between Zuko and Lu Ten realistic. Plus how Lu Ten reacts when he sees his father again. Plus, the words Iroh uses. I'm also glad Iroh said Lu Ten must take the throne. But, again, Zuko is a child himself. Plus, he needs serious therapy to work through his PTSD from all the abuse he suffered at the hands of Ozai and Azula. He's not mentally in a good place to lead.Plus, that's a burden no child should be put in. So again, Lu Ten does sympathize with Aang. But again, he calls him out that he's lying to himself and doing all he can to get out of his responsibilities. The fight is better because Aang did what he should've done: GIVE UP Katara. It's a pretty kick-ass moment when Lu Ten reveals to Ozai that Zuko is his son and heir. And despite Ozai using vastly inappropriate language, Ozai has to live with the fact the child he abused was the rightful heir to the throne all along. I love the ending when Lu Ten comes clean after Zuko's duel with Azula. Zuko's unconscious, and no one is sure he'll live, but everything comes out for Iroh and Zuko. Then slipping, Zuko has another sibling, and Iroh has a second grandchild.Overall this was as amazing as Iroh's Child. Both stories Yemi wrote would've been way better then the canon material. Again the original pairing of Lu Ten and Ursa. Zuko, not being the son of Ozai. I can't wait for her to write the next story in her saga. But honestly, she's a genius. The only problem she admits is her dyslexia, which causes minor writing problems. But I'm genuinely blown away by her stories. I'd love to see it as an actual episode! When a story is that good, you know its worth it. She's created one of the best and original AU for Avatar. So I've nothing but praise for her and her work! You should check out her stories either on FFN or A03! See you all later!

Azula always lies
Sighing deeply, Zuko sat alone by the turtle duck pond that he and his mother had sat by together two years ago this day. "I'm taller then I had been back then,"Zuko spoke softly to no one.
Forced to grow up quicker then normal after the loss of his mother and his fathers surprising ascension to Fire Lord, Zuko could no longer be considered the child he'd been. His father expected even more from him now considering that he was now the son of the Fire Lord thus Zuko had to be stronger all the time for all his actions now reflected back on the Fire Lord.
"Of course Azula had no problem showing how strong she was. Everyday she grows in more and more favor with  father, to the Fire Lord, Azula is the Fire of the Fire nation and I am nothing but the smoke."
"Quack!" startled out of his dark thoughts Zuko nearly jumped to his feet when the mother turtle duck came swimming up near him with her babies swimming along behind her. Staring angrily after them Zuko picked up a handful of s

Zuko lay down.
"You blundering idiot! Can't you learn a simple bending manuver?!" His Father yelled angrily kicking aside his boots and slamming the door. Zuko sat down on his bed.
"I'm sorry Father." Taking a deep intake of breath. His side hurt still. His Father had been "training" him all day. The door opened.
"Hey, big brother." Zuko looked up. "Having a bad day?" she asked.
"Shut up, Azula!"
"Aww big brother had a bad day." she said. She was evil. She really was.
"No."
"You know Mom came back today?" Zuko jumped up.
"You're lying!"
"Oh and you've become so smart."
"SHUT UP AZULA!" Zuko yelled. His voice echoing. The door slammed open. His Father stomped in.
"WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT RAISING YOUR VOICE IN MY HOSEHOLD?!" Fire Lord Ozai screamed.
"Not to." he said quietly. Almost cowering under his Father's shadow.
"Good." The Fire Lord lead his daughter out of the room.
"Father?" The Fire Lord stopped. "Any news from Mother?" The Fire Lord shook his head and continued o

please take a look folks  Ryuji's storyRyuji walked around in the halls of the spaceship feeling like he got out of a fight which he did. his brother nomar was just recently in a slight violent fight with ryuji in a nearby room which he did on occasion whenever he felt the need to take his anger out on him. Ryuji sighed, covered in scars from his own brother 'that jerk he's just enjoying beating me up' Ryuji left into a nearby room to get away from his bro, he took off his jacket, shirt & the red four sided crystal off his chest. And healed some of the scars on his torso leaving the old ones from a while back which made him look like he got out of a war. Ryuji put the red four sided gem on his chest like he were surgically placing an eye into an eye socket & Ryuji smirked slightly putting the shirt back on and layed down on the the bed near by as the expression on his face quickly went back to his usual monochrome vibe.Ryuji looked up at the ceiling thinking to himself 'will i ever be good enough....why do even exist.... everyone hates me' . he never really showed it but those who knew him knew(update: i've recently figured out what i'm missing it might take a little while but as soon as i get it done this story will be more interesting){if you folks wanna see more feel free to add this to your favorites... this will be updated soon and edited also if your curious as to how ryuji looks like his pictures are on my deviantart profile thing}It was a bright April morning and the aspen trees swayed gently in the breeze. As well as the long unkempt grass amongst a massive valley that was populated by small villages of anthero animals. Above them can be seen steampunk trade ships going about its usual daily routine delivering food and supplies to the neighboring towns. Floating ships futuristic and steampunk in style with gold trim on the windows and handrails with a 1980’s feel to it but the ships itself were very much high tech A couple of hours later two foxes were coming home from the market whenA comet could be seen crashing to land. "Mommy look" exclaimed a young anthro fox. Both the mother fox and the young fox looked up to see a large fast moving space pod fall. Two more were trailing behind Ryuji looked out the window watching his descent to land. Ryuji got sleepy and dozed off, after a few hours the space pod landed on a nearby mountainside Almost making a nearby ship capsize. Ryuji woke up startled wondering where he was "***** im sinking" Ryuji panicked unsure of what to do. He then kicked the space pod door open and got out. As the capsule sunk to the ground below He attempted to float in the air after a few minutes he got to a giant ornate pirate ship. And looked down at the ship. The ship looked like aspaceship redesigned as a pirate ship "great more pirate scum i have to fight" Ryuji complained flying down onto the railing of the ship. And landing with a clank on the metallic deck of the shipRyuji got up and grinned. Noticing the goblin pirates running at him with daggers. The grin on Ryuji face faded to a cold expression Ryuji slashed half the pirates killing themThe rest of them stood frozen in terror, "well" Ryuji gave a ***ister look to scare them away. And they all ran and jumped off the ship Ryuji sighed and put his hands on the back of his head... walking to the middle of the ship and looked at the dragons passing through the clouds. "Well this sucks now I have no one to entertain me" Ryuji said still looking cold and emotionless. "Hey kid your going to pay for that" exclaimed a voice coming from where the wheel was. Ryuji turned and noticed the captain standing on the guardrail pointing his sword at him. "Looks like the captain of the losers has arrived" Ryuji said looking at the captain with a bored look on his face.He would have preferred it if he didn’t have to fight "come on loser lets get this over with" Ryuji motioned for him to attack the pirate jumped down from were the steering wheel is and ran at Ryuji. Angrily slashing at Ryuji’s side trying to chop him in half but Ryuji dodged it by jumping in the air & jumping back a few feet. "You miiissed" Ryuji joked as he chopped off the captains arm and torso. In a x shape all in one swift motion Making it fly across the ship and land with a clank next to the door situated under the steering wheel. "Not so tough now are you captain" Ryuji said with a smirk as the captain put himself back together And picked up Ryuji by the leg ... jumped high in the air and slammed him down on the metallic deck of the ship. Making a rather large dent in the ship. Ryuji winced and got up, the captain laughed, Ryuji gave the captain a cold angry look ... "die" Ryuji quickly picked up the captain by the collar & threw him high into the air & chopped him to bits ... setting him on fire... burning him to ashes. Ryuji put his sword back in his sheath and landed back down on the ship. Ryuji looked at the steering wheel and sighed "great how am i gonna get out of here now" Ryuji complained still a bit upset. He noticed that the ship had steered off course aimlessly floating in the air "well... whatever" Ryuji then walked off into the hull to look for a place to rest. He found a room near a window and layed down on the bed.Looking at the sky through the gold framed window watching the clouds go by. after a few minutes Ryuji heard a loud crash that sounded like it was a few miles off. which scared Ryuji out of bed. He winced and got up, hearing someone land onto the deck of the ship sounding disgusted and disturbed. Ryuji quickly got onto the bed realizing who it was. the doors clanked open and footsteps could be heard going down the stairs., The footsteps got closer the door opened as allue came in with a leather pouch tied to her belt . Which was new to Ryuji sense he knew she didn't like carrying around stuff. allue went to him and sat down near him giving him a look of descust "did you have to kill all the goblins?" Allue questioned in a slight annoyed tone "Yes I had to" Ryuji replied. Allue face palmed and sighed "do you even know why your doing this" Allue asked. "Revenge and to get my powers back did nomar tell you" Ryuji asked looking at Allue. "yes" Allue quickly stopped there got up with an apathetic look on her face and gave Ryuji the pouch, got up & left without another word. Ryuji sighed staring at the door and sighed he then layed back down... slowly dozing off(time skip)Ryuji woke up by the sound of the ship crashing into the land below which made him fall out of bed Ryuji got up and quickly got to the top of the deck, looking over the railing noticing a big hole in the ship"dang that's a lot of damage well whatever i won't be needing it anymore" Ryuji jumped off the railing of the ship and went to the nearest village. Ryuji asked a nearby villager the date and the creature replied july 10th. Ryuji looked shocked "What! i've been sleeping for two weeks!" the villager looked surprised thinking Ryuji was weird... the creature quickly left.Ryuji headed into the village to look for the next gem 'in the lake' whispered a voice in his ear Ryuji stopped wondering were the voice was coming from when he heard celtic tavern music nearby, he went in, getting distracted, everyone was sitting around in rows drinking and telling stories. When the boy came in breaking the door with his scaly tail. and was suddenly stopped by a tough looking lizard man dressed in a viking outfit "what do you want" Ryuji replied obviously not in the mood. "you just broke out tavern door you're going to pay for that" the viking replied clenching his fist. Ryuji just grinned and raised his pointer & middle finger& mumbled something under his breath and put the viking under a sleeping spell.the viking was knocked out on the floor "stupid viking" Ryuji scoffedRyuji looked at the viking on the floor thinking he shouldn't have done that. He looked up and the majority of the people in the tavern were looking at him "what are you creatures looking at" Ryuji glared at the creatures and they all panicked and hastily went back to what they were doing. "******* morons, why am i treated like an outsider" Ryuji thought sitting down., All the anthro's looked at him like it was there first time seeing anything remotely close to a human. In a very long time Ryuji looked at the pouch his sister allue gave him the bottom was covered in a thin layer of frost. Ryuji opened it taking out the gem that was inside it it was so cold that he couldn't hold the gem for more than a few seconds he quickly put it back., When a wolf anthro dressed in a waiter's outfit came to Ryuji and asked for his order. He ordered alfredo chicken and some strawberry lemonade. The waiter wolf wrote it down and left. Ryuji waited then looked around he noticed a couple of chicken anthro's shivering in terror and fearing for their life.Ryuji was about to laugh but stopped himself from doing so. After the apocalypse happened the world had changed to the point were animals had become sentient. Ryuji sighed and looked at the necklace that had the word hope in metallic kanji on his necklace., suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his forehead. as what appeared to be black silhouettes of vines going from his forehead down... his face Ryuji bent over the table "no not now" Ryuji struggled to control whatever had a hold of him. Ryuji got up and ran out of the tavern. While the music stopped and everyone in the tavern watched Ryuji leave. and went quietly back to what they were doing. Ryuji ran to the nearby forest he stopped as a sharp pain went through his head, his right eye became dark cold and soulless 'don't... please... stop' he was trying to stop whatever was trying to take control of himBeads of sweat went down his face his body wasn't listening to him, his body felt like it had a mind of its own. It moved towards the center of town every attempt at regaining control felt pointless. His mind slipped into what felt like a nightmare that felt all too real. His body came to a town, wondering why he's even trying to get his body under control, he watched as his body started killing a bunch of anthero creatures.he thought killing a bunch of wild animals wasn't necessarily wrong of course that was questionable. but anthro? sentient animals was questionable even debatable like everything he was currently doing right now. Ryuji held out his hand and a large cloud of black smoke went everywhere and into the buildings and everyone came running outof the lundon street style building, like they just got out of a burning building, looking gravely ill and shortly collapsed and died were they stood.Ryuji then proceeded to killing whomever and whatever he came in contact with...(I'm currently missing a page I will add it when i find it) Ryuji went to a wolf anthro and picked him up by the collar "where is it" Ryuji retorted the wolf anthro panicked and tried to get out of his grasp "I I d dont know what your talking about" the anthro replied having no idea what he was talking about. Ryuji just sliced its head off and threw the creature to the side & walked off A young lady with long red hair walked down the road looking for Ryuji she had been searching for him for a while and he was getting worried when she got close enough she heard a bunch of noise. the sound of glass breaking and buildings breaking and rubble everywhere didn't do anything to quell her ever increasing fear.blood soaked the streets an eary darkness loomed overhead... 'what is he Ryu doing there' she thought in a state of slight panic as Ryuji heard her and came closer at breakneck speeds about to chop her up but stopped within mear inches of her throat, looking down at her with his sword at her neck. and a large smirk "your next little missy"-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ryuji woke up a few minutes/hours later In what looked like a futuristic, steampunk version of a horse drawn carriage or what appeared. To be one he couldn't tell he was barely awake his sword was missing but his gem bag was nearby which he could feel next to him which was a bit of a relief he didn't feel like searching for all of the gems again. "were am I" Ryuji asked looking at the window were the driver was. The person sitting next to him replied "so the delinquent finally woke up I was beginning to wonder when you were going to wake" The guy sitting shotgun was about to reply again when Ryuji Tried to free himself "I'm going to fr****** maul you once i get out of here" Ryuji retorted. The guy at shotgun just laughed "these are special chains you won't be getting out of those anytime soon" Ryuji grinned, his eyes turned to that of a dragon and he broke free sending pieces of the chain flying into the coach. the coach had stopped and both the men were either fainted or dead from the attack.RyujI couldn't really tell He took his gem bag and went out the door to check if they were still alive. The guy that was holding the reins and the guy next to him were both dead from the initial attack and are now green with patches of fur in places "figures ... stupid goblins" Ryuji glared at the goblins and headed off to where he thought the gem would be Ryuji thought to himself while walking with his hands behind his head and looking up at the sky 'how did i get In this situation' after a few minutes Ryuji stopped and questioned as to where he was even going. He had no idea were the gem even was let along how to find it "maybe those stupid goblin pirates hid it somewhere' Ryu thought to himself walking off down an old road battered by time and littered with chunks of skyscrapers alongside the road. Then everything glitched and turned back into what looked to be a steampunk themed town. Ryuji blinked and rubbed his eyes wondering if he was losing it or something 'what f*** is going on' Ryuji then shrugged it off and walked off towards where he assumed the next gem maybe.Ryuji walked till he saw a lake show through the trees in the distance he started running till he got to the edge of a cliff face, almost falling over the edge. Ryu sat down and breath in a sigh of relief that he didn't just topple over the edge of a cliff. He looked over the edge thinking of a way to get down. Then just growing a pair of gold dragon wings and flying down till he landed with a thud on the grass below Ryuji walked over to what looked to be a big scenic lake with mountains and trees in the distance he went towards the lake and went in assuming it would be in therehe walked until he was fully submerged Ryu dived down deep Ryuji saw a shimmer of light in the distance and quickly swam to where the light was coming from. Ryuji swam further down watching the fish go by. it was fairly deep so deep that it felt like he was swimming down the mariana trench he swam for what felt like hours. When he started to loose his breath his throat felt like it was inflated. Ryuji gasped for air and fainted sinking to the bottom when his elbow touched the gem.Ryuji woke up feeling strange he felt cold and scaly he looked at himself "great I've been turned into a merman" his voice was muffled but that didn't matter. Ryuji turned to look for the gem then noticed the gem below him. Ryuji dug it out and he put the gem in his side pouch. And started to swim back up to the top after swimming half way up Ryuji was attacked by a large gold skinned creature. The creature attacked him so fast that he didn't have time to react. The creature hit his stomach Ryuji then grabbed his arm
